Serves | 16 |
Prep time | 30 minutes |
Cook time | 12 minutes |
Total time | 42 minutes |
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (not too hot, or you'll kill your yeast.)
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 teaspoons pure cane sugar (or agave nectar)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 1/3 cups whole wheat white flour (Or use 1 cup white flour with 1 1/3 cup whole wheat, if you don't have flour made from the white wheat berries.)
- 1/4 cup unbleached all purpose flour (or use whole wheat white flour for this too)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
Step 1 | |
In a small bowl, gently combine your warm water, olive oil, sweetener, and yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about 4-5 minutes. You just want to make sure that you see some bubbles/foaminess forming on the surface of your mixture, so that you know your yeast will work.
Step 2 | |
In a large bowl, combine your flours and salt. Then, add your liquids, gently stirring with a spoon or fork, until you just give up and use your hands. Hands work the best for this! Go ahead and need your dough until it is smooth and wonderful. You may need to add a teaspoon of flour or water, depending, to bring your dough the the "smooth and wonderful" consistency.
Step 3 | |
Place your dough in the mixing bowl, cover it, and place it in a warm and dry place to rise for about 15-20 minutes. In the meantime, you can prep your pizza toppings.
Step 4 | |
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 5 | |
DIvide your dough into 2 equal parts, rolling each part out into a roughly 12 inch diameter circle. Prepare your pizzas as you like.
Step 6 | |
Bake at 375 degrees Fahreneheit for about 12-14 minutes, or until the crust is just turning a slight golden color. |
